Chronology of cameras Thornton Pickard
Thornton-Pickard was one of the most important English camera manufacturers. Based in Manchester, it was best known for its camera shutters. The company was founded in 1888 by Edgar Pickard and John Edward Thornton. Thornton already held a number of patents and Pickard provided him with the financial means to develop them. After Pickard's death in 1897, his successors parted company with Thornton who, totally disillusioned, emigrated to America in 1913 and brought his skill and creativity working with George Eastman.
The Thornton-Pickard company continued to manufacture cameras including famous cameras such as the "Imperial Triple Extension" but did not go into mass production and ceased production in 1939.
The “Ruby Junior Special” is a single lens reflex camera in 6x9 format. It is fitted with a 1/10th to 1/1000th focal plane curtain shutter.
This example is equipped with a 5 inch Taylor Hobson Cooke Anastigmat lens, f:4.5.
